Shore Excursions

A "highlights of Cairo" tour designed especially for guests on a Mediterranean Cruise with Alexandria or Port Said as their port-of-call. Includes pyramids, Sphinx, the Citadel, Alabaster Mosque, Old Cairo, the King Tut treasures, and a short Nile Cruise. (This package can also be shortened to a day trip or lengthened and customized to include other optional activities if desired.)

DAY 1: Alexandria (or Port Said)/Cairo

Disembark your tour ship at Alexandria (or Port Said). Our Treasures of Egypt Tours Guide will meet you and handle all your details. Immediately depart for Cairo by private A/C vehicle (approx. 3 hours driving time).

Arrive in Giza (suburb of Cairo) where your tour begins. Your private Egyptologist/guide will take you first to the Giza plateau to visit the pyramid complex where you will view the pyramids of the Pharaohs Cheops, Chephren, and Mycerinus, the smaller subsidiary pyramids of queens and princesses of each pharaoh, the ruins of the Mortuary Temples and giant causeways of their pyramid complexes, the amazing Valley Temple of Chephren, and the Great Sphinx hewn from the limestone plateau. For a small additional fee, enjoy a camel ride through the sands surrounding these remarkable structures!

After lunch, visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities where you may tour the golden treasures of the boy-pharaoh Tutankhamun.

Just before sunset, board a felucca - a typical Egyptian sailboat - for cocktails and a romantic trip on the legendary river Nile. Transfer to your five star hotel, the Mena House Oberoi, which lies in the shadow of the pyramids. B (ship), L

DAY 2: Cairo/Return

Enjoy breakfast at the Mena House, then travel by private A/C vehicle to the Citadel, constructed by Saladin to protect Cairo from the Mongol threat. Within the fortress walls you will also visit the magnificent Alabaster Mosque built by Mohamed Ali. Then visit Old Cairo, where you will see the oldest mosques, churches, and synagogues in Cairo.

After lunch, return to Alexandria (or Port Said) to rejoin your cruise and continue your journey, or transfer to the airport for your flight home. B, L
